The Creation of The Witching Pen series
Author's Note
The Witching Pen 'series' began life in mid-2011 as The Witching Pen 'Novellas', which is why you will see 'novellas' as part of the series name on some retail sites. Originally, I had intended for all the stories to be shorter in length. What transpired, instead, was an act of creation I could never have anticipated, with this series tapping into my passion in a way I had never experienced with writing before. The stories of the characters became long and complex, and the books became novels - not novellas. The Demon Bride and The Last Dragon are both full-length novels. In total, this entire series (four books and a bonus short story prequel) stands at approximately 230,000 words. There is also the companion [short] novel, Saving Eve.
The truth is that this series has been one huge experiment. It has gone through changes from inception to completion; it has been a journey for me, both in self-publishing and in myself as a writer. It will always be my 'first'.
This is a series you have to read in order as the plot is interlinked throughout all four books. If you start from half way through, you'll be lost and you'll have missed out on a whole load of stuff. A lot happens within these pages!
Lastly, I think it's fair to say that for the most part, you will not get even an inkling of what this series is about by reading the first book alone; that's why the first book is free - to give you the opportunity to explore this series fully.
I hope you thrive on reading it, to the same extent I thrived on writing it.
